Monthly Homework

Starting in November, your child will receive homework that will reflect the activities we are working on in the classroom.  The homework is a great way for you to reinforce the skills we are working on and will be a great way to review the skills.  I hope you find the activities to be beneficial for you and your child.  Please turn the homework in at the end of each month.

 Letters/Letter Sounds

We have completed letters/letter sounds Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Gg, Oo, Ss, Tt, Vv, and Ww.  Please help your child practice writing the upper and lower case letters along with the sounds these letters make.  If your child is having difficulty identifying letters and letter sounds, please only work on a few letters and letter sounds at a time.  Once your child has mastered the letters and letter sounds you have been practicing, add a few more letters while continuing to practice the ones your child already knows.  Our class continues to review the alphabet on a daily basis and reinforcement at home will greatly benefit your child.

Shapes

We are also learning about two dimensional shapes.  Please continue to practice identifying a circle, square, rectangle, oval, triangle, and hexagon.  Ask your child what shapes they can find at the grocery store, kitchen, bedroom, etc. for a fun game to play.

Numbers

Our class is also learning our numbers.  We are practicing identifying and writing numbers 0-10.  Please help your child practice these skills at home.

Counting

Your child should be able to count to at least 20.  Please help your child by practicing counting anything and everything! (buttons, pennies, candy, etc.)

Favorite Books

Throughout the school year we will be studying a variety of authors.  Here are a few books by Lucille Colandro that are our favorite!

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books!

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Shells

You and your child should visit your local library to check out more of her books!!

Books

Your child will be bringing MANY paper books home.  Please make a special spot to store these books.  Please practice reading these books at home with your child.  We have practiced reading them many times before they come home, so ask them to read to you first!

Please dress your child with appropriate clothing according to the weather.  As the weather becomes cooler we will still be going outside to play.  Please dress your child with warm jackets, gloves, hats, etc.  Make sure you write the name of your child in everything!  If anything is lost, please check our lost and found in the main lobby.

Volunteers

We will be needing volunteers in our classroom starting in November.  If you would like to volunteer, you need to complete a background check and send it to school with your child if you have not already done so.  I  will be sending a note closer to November regarding specific times and days.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or contact me.
